Upgrades may be performed to introduce new features or to improve existing features.
Tyro's infrastructure allows us to manage terminals remotely. We perform upgrades out of merchant operating hours and communicate changes to merchants via email.
Our development processes are fast as we continually produce robust and stable software that meets specification. At every stage of development we do comprehensive testing so we can be sure that new versions of software will not introduce problems in the field.
Future Releases include:
- EMV chip card technology
- Hotel pre-authorisation
EMV is a standard for interoperation of chip cards for authenticating
credit card payments. These smartcards are being phased in across the
world under the name Chip and PIN. Expect EMV towards the end of 2009.
Hotel pre-authorisation is the ability to reserve funds on the customer's credit card so that payment of the customer's bill is guaranteed.
With the introduction of Pen or Pin, Visa and MasterCard cardholders have the option of using a signature or a PIN for credit card transactions.
The use of a PIN is neither more nor less secure than authorisation by signature, it is merely an alternative authorisation method. Cardholders' rights to dispute a transaction are not affected. These rights are protected by a number of industry codes and practices.
Tyro has been certified by the card schemes for Pen or PIN. To activate Pen or PIN on your Tyro terminal, turn the terminal off and then on again.
