Smart Account User Guide

Get started with the Tyro App

Setting up your Tyro App is simple. Go to the App Store or Google Play, search Tyro and download the Tyro App.

How do I request access to my Tyro App?

  1. To request access to your Tyro App, simply call our Financial Services team on 1300 966 639.
  2. You will receive an email with your username and temporary password to login to the Tyro App.
  1. Download the Tyro App from the App Store or Google Play.

How do I log in for the first time?

  1. Open the Tyro App.
  2. Enter the email address associated with your Tyro, and the temporary password sent to you via email.
  1. You’ll be sent an SMS verification code to your registered phone number, which you enter into the Tyro App.
  1. Create a new password (you’ll need this if you get locked out of the Tyro App). Use at least six characters, one upper case, one number and/or special character.
  1. Create a passcode (four digit PIN) to use as your login.
  2. Re enter passcode a second time for confirmation.

How do I change my password?

  1. In the Tyro App, tap the Settings tab in the bottom right corner for iOS, top left for Android.
  2. Tap Change password.
  3. Enter your current password.
  4. Enter your new password.
  5. Enter a second time for confirmation.

How do I change my passcode?

  1. In the Tyro App, tap the Settings tab in the bottom right corner for iOS, top left for Android.
  2. Tap Change passcode.
  3. Enter your current passcode.
  4. Enter your new passcode.
  5. Enter a second time for confirmation.

How do I activate my Tyro Smart Account?

  1. On the home screen of the Tyro App, look for the “Activate Smart Account” card on your dashboard and tap Learn more.
  2. You will be educated on some of the benefits of the Tyro Smart Account. Tap Activate Smart Account to continue.
  1. You’ll be asked to confirm that your EFTPOS funds will now settle in your Tyro Smart Account. Tap ‘I understand to continue.
  1. Your Tyro Smart Account has been activated.

How do I enable fingerprint login?

  1. To enable Touch ID on iOS. tap the Settings button in the bottom right corner. Alternatively, if you’re using an Android phone, tap on the top left.
  2. For iOS, tap the toggle next to Enable Touch ID. On Android, tap Fingerprint login, then tap the toggle.
  3. You’ll be asked to accept the terms of enabling Touch ID.
  4. Enter your passcode to confirm.
  5. To switch off, simply tap the Settings button and untoggle the option to Use Touch ID or Fingerprint login.

Working with Xero

As a one-off, you’ll need to add your Tyro Smart Account to your Xero® account to set up bank feeds. To complete the process, connect your account to Xero via the Tyro App.

How do I connect the Tyro Smart Account to Xero?

You’ll need to add your Tyro Smart Account to your Xero account first, before finishing the connection in the Tyro App.

  1. Open up Xero on your computer and login
  2. In Xero, open the Accounts tab.
  3. Click on Bank accounts.
  1. Click on Add bank account.
  1. Type “Tyro Payments” into the text field and select it from the drop-down menu.
  1. Enter the account name, then choose Day to Day account.
  1. Put in your BSB and account number, and click Save.

Now, do the following steps in the Tyro App:

  1. Login to the Tyro App and find the Xero connection card on your dashboard.
  2. Tap Connect to Xero to get started.
  3. Enter your Xero account login details.
  4. You’ll see the page to setup bank feeds page from Tyro to Xero.
  5. Select your business from the Organisation drop-down menu.
  6. Select your Tyro Smart Account from the Match to account in Xero dropdown.
  7. Tap Connect.
  8. Go back to the Tyro App. It might take 10 minutes for it to sync with Xero and finish registration. You’ll be notified when it’s successful.

How do I add invoices to Xero?

Invoices must first be entered into your Xero account before being sent for payment approval via the Tyro App. Follow these simple steps:

  1. Log in to Xero.
  2. Under payments you need to pay, click New payment.
  1. Enter details of the invoice into Xero.
  1. Select Approve.

How do I send batch payments to my Tyro Smart Account from Xero?

  1. On the Dashboard, go to Awaiting Payments tab [Accounts>Purchases> Awaiting Payment] tab.
  1. Select Bills to pay.
  2. Click Batch payment.
  1. Enter the Payment date for the batch payments.
  1. For Bank account, select your Tyro Smart Account.

  2. Payments have now been sent to your Tyro App for approval.

How do I send BPAY bills to my Tyro Smart Account from Xero?

  1. On the Dashboard, go to Awaiting Payments tab (Accounts Purchases > Awaiting Payment) tab.
  1. Select payments to pay.
  2. Click Batch payment.
  1. Enter the Payment date for the batch payments.
  1. For Bank account, select your Tyro Smart Account.

  1. On your list of bills to pay, under the Bank Account column, type your BPAY Customer Reference Number.
  1. Under the Details column, type “BPAY” followed directly by the biller code you’re paying without any spaces. E.g. BPAY12345.
  1. To complete, click Make payments.
  1. Your BPAY bills have now been sent to your Tyro App for approval.

How do I create an payroll ABA files for Xero using the Tyro Smart Account?

  1. In Xero, visit Settings -> General Settings-> Payroll Settings. You will need to complete the bank feed connection in the Tyro App first (please look for the ‘Connect to Xero’ notification on your App home screen). You can then select the name of your Tyro Smart Account as your Bank Account. Be sure to click save.
  1. Prepare your Pay Run as usual using Xero. Once you are ready to finalise the Pay Run, select Post Pay Run, then from the Pay Run Options menu select Download ABA to export your ABA file. If your browser prompts you for a file name, ensure the file name still ends in .aba

How do I upload an ABA file to make a payment from the Tyro Smart Account?

  1. You will need to open the ABA file from your phone. Use email or a cloud service (such as Dropbox) to transfer the ABA file to your phone.
  2. On your phone, open the ABA file from your email or drop box account then tap the Upload icon. You’ll be asked to pick a program to open it with, choose the Tyro App.
  1. If successful, the ABA file will be processed and displayed in Payments under Awaiting Approval.
  1. If unsuccessful, it could be for a number of reasons:
    • You didn’t change your payroll bank account to your Tyro Smart Account in Xero
    • You didn’t upload an ABA file that ends in .aba (e.g payroll24Jul.aba)
    • One of your payees in the ABA has incorrect payment details

If you have made an error you will need to log back in to Xero, revert the pay run to draft status, fix the error, post the pay run and download the ABA file again.
Tapping Continue will take you back to the dashboard.

Making and managing my payments

Take control over your payments whenever and wherever you are. Any payment approval requests are sent directly to your mobile phone which you can pay with one touch. Alternatively, make pay anyone payments to bank accounts and BPAY Billers directly from your phone.

How do I make a pay anyone payment to a bank account or BPAY Billers?

  1. On the home screen, tap on Pay & transferAlternatively, tap on the Banking tab and then tap Pay & transfer.
  1. Choose a payee that you’d like to pay. You may choose from bank accounts and BPAY Billers, or your Linked Account.
  1. Enter their amount, an optional description, and a payment date. Payments can be scheduled up to 6 months in the future.
  1. Tap Pay. You’ll be asked to confirm the transaction first.
  1. Payment has been confirmed for payment. Payments confirmed for the same day will be processed 10 minutes after confirmation..
  1. If you need to access schedule payments, you can find them under the Banking tab at the bottom of the screen, and Approved payments, until they are processed.

How do I add a new BPAY Biller to pay?

  1. On the Dashboard, tap on Pay & transfer. Alternatively, tap on the Banking tab and then tap Pay & transfer.
  1. On iOS, tap the + button in the top right hand corner of the screen. For Android, select the BPAY tab and press the + button in the bottom right.
  1. In iOS, select Add BPAY Biller.
  1. Enter payee’s BPAY Biller Code and an optional nickname, then tap Continue.
  1. You will then be prompted to make a payment to this BPAY Biller.
  1. Once you’ve completed the payment, you’ll be asked to enter your Tyro passcode for security purposes.
  2. The payee will only be saved when the Tyro passcode has been entered successfully.

How do I add a new bank account payee to pay?

  1. On the Dashboard, tap on Pay & transfer. Alternatively, tap on the Banking tab and then tap Pay & transfer.
  1. On iOS, tap the + button in the top right hand corner of the screen. For Android, select the BPAY tab and press the + button in the bottom right.
  1. In iOS, select Add Bank account.
  1. Enter payee’s Account name, BSB, Account number and an optional nickname, then tap Continue.
  1. You will then be prompted to make a payment to this bank account.
  1. Once you’ve completed the payment, you’ll be asked to enter your Tyro passcode for security purposes.
  2. The payee will only be saved when the Tyro passcode has been entered successfully.

What if I have insufficient funds to make a pay anyone payment?

  1. When you attempt to make a pay anyone payment from your account and have insufficient funds, you’ll be notified when you hit Pay.
  2. You can still schedule the payment and it will be processed with funds become available.
    Alternatively, you can return to the payment screen and make adjustments before attempting the payment again.

How do I remove a payee from my pay anyone list?

  1. In iOS on your Pay & transfer payee list, swipe left on the payee you wish to delete. Long press if you’re using Android.
  2. Tap the red Delete button on the payee.
  1. Payees that have payments scheduled will be paid unless you have removed their approval. Tap Delete to finalise.

What if I hit my daily payment limit when trying to make a payment?

  1. When you attempt to make a pay anyone payment from your account and have exceeded your payment limit, you’ll be notified when you hit Pay.
    Your default limit for all pay anyone transactions is $20,000. If you have not yet raised your limit to the maximum amount, you’ll be notified that you can raise it by calling Tyro Customer Support on 1300.
    The maximum limit for a pay anyone transaction per day is $30,000 for your security.
  1. However, if you have already raised it to its maximum amount, you’ll simply be informed that you’ve exceeded your payment limit.

How do I use my Tyro Smart Account for direct debits?

  1. If you wish to have a payee Direct Debit from your Tyro Smart Account, provide them your BSB and Account number (found on your dashboard) so they can process debits on your account.

What if I run out of money and a Direct Debit fails?

  1. If you have a Direct Debit setup on your account and you have insufficient funds, it will automatically be re-tried 30 minutes later. If it fails again, you will be notified and it will be ledgered in your transaction history. Tyro does not charge a fee for this failed payment.

How do I manage my pending payments?

  1. From the dashboard, go to the Banking tab and tap on Awaiting approval. The button will have a orange circle with a number inside showing the current number of pending payments.
  1. You’ll see a list of payments that are awaiting approval, each showing the payee name, amount, description and due date.
  1. Tapping a payment shows you more detail such as the payee’s account information.
  1. If you tap to approve the payment, it will be moved to the Approved payments.
    NOTE: If you reject the payment, it will no longer be shown as pending and have to be resubmitted from Xero to be paid in the future.

How do I manage my approved payments?

  1. From the dashboard, tap on the Banking tab at the bottom of the screen, and tap Approved payments.
  1. You’ll see a list of payments that have been approved, each showing the payee name, amount, description and due date.
  1. Tapping a payment shows you more detail such as the payee’s account information. You can remove your payment approval here if you no longer wish to pay.
    NOTE: If you reject the payment, it will no longer be shown as pending and have to be resubmitted from Xero to be paid in the future..

How do I reject a payment?

  1. From the dashboard, tap the Banking tab and then on Awaiting approval.
  1. Tap on the payment you want to reject.
  1. Tap Reject.
  1. This means that a payment will have to be updated manually from Xero. Tap Confirm if you want to continue.The payment will be rejected for payment.
    NOTE: that Xero will not get a notification for this rejection from Tyro..

How do I know when a payment is paid?

  1. From the dashboard, tap on the Banking tab at the bottom of the screen, and tap Approved payments.
  1. Tap through to approve your payment.
  1. The payment with be moved from Pending to Approved.
  1. You’ll receive a notification that the payment has been paid. When you tap on the notification, it will take you to the transaction history list.
    NOTE: A timestamp shows the last time the transaction value updated.

What happens if I run out of money?

  1. If you have a payment that has been approved and your account has insufficient funds, you’ll get a notification three days before the due date.
  1. Tapping on the notification takes you to the payment where you have the option to cancel your payment approval, or reject the payment.
    Alternatively, Tyro gives you three days notice so you can transfer more funds into your account to make the payment payment. If your payment is overdue, you’ll be presented to pay it right now.

Managing my account

You’ll stay on top of your finances with real-time listings of all transactions, easily-exportable monthly statements, and extensive search capabilities.

How do I view my EFTPOS takings in real time on the Tyro App?

  1. Your unsettled EFTPOS takings are shown on your dashboard, below your Tyro Smart Account balance. It shows both your total amount of unsettled EFTPOS takings, and just the EFTPOS takings for today.
  1. Tapping on the balance will show you a breakdown of your unsettled EFTPOS takings by day. You can also access this by tapping the Eftpos tab at the bottom of your screen.
  1. This will show you a breakadown of your sales broken down by hour, and by day in a graph, as well as when funds are expected to settle into either your Tyro Smart Account, or your nominated Linked Account.
  2. You can also view individual transactions by tapping View transactions, and see details on individual transactions happening through your EFTPOS terminals.

How do I view my transaction history?

  1. From the dashboard, tap the Banking tab at the bottom of the screen, and then Transaction history.
  1. You get a list of your transaction history in reverse chronological order.
  1. You can see details on each transactions payer details, amount and date. You can also filter transactions by credits or debits to your account.

How do I access my account statements?

  1. To access your account statements, tap the Banking tab at the bottom of the screen.
  1. Tap on Account statements.
  1. Tap on the month you’d like to see.
  1. The statement will be shown, ready to save or export.

How do I delete my account from my phone?

  1. To delete your account from the phone, first exit the Tyro App.
  2. On iOS Long press on the Tyro App icon. In Android, hold your finger down on the icon.
  3. On iOS, tap on the “X” that appears next to it, or drag it onto the “Delete” section for Android.
  1. Choose to delete from the pop-up box.
  1. If you choose to reinstall the app, you’ll be asked for the same username and password you used to log in previously.

  1. All transactions performed via the Tyro App are protected by your password.
  2. Tyro enforces multi-factor authentication when setting up your credentials. This means our security system requires more than one channel of authentication from independent categories of credentials to verify your identity.
  3. The Tyro App is protected with industry-standard strong encryption.
  4. Tyro’s back-end applications are developed with fraud detection technologies.

Security tips

  1. Do NOT store or write down your password on your mobile device.
  2. Remember to log out of your Tyro App once you’ve finished banking.
  3. Install apps from official app stores only, such as Apple’s App Store or Google Play. Installing apps from unofficial stores may expose you to malicious software.
  4. Always keep your operating system and the Tyro App updated.
