How to make the most of Father’s Day in your business (and bring more customers through your doors)

Father’s Day is Sunday 6th September. And while another pair of socks might be inevitable, businesses have plenty of opportunities to give customers something a little more memorable.

From filling tables to shifting gift-worthy stock, here are some practical Father’s Day ideas you can put to work.

Hospitality: give them a reason to book

Father’s Day can be a big day for pubs, cafés, restaurants and accommodation businesses, so think beyond simply opening the doors.

Restaurants, pubs and cafés: Create a Father’s Day menu, host a Dad-sized eating challenge, run trivia or show the big game. You could also offer a simple incentive such as “bring Dad and his coffee’s on us” or a complimentary dessert with every Father’s Day booking.

If you’re hosting something fun, make it shareable. Encourage photos, reviews and social tags so the activity can help more people discover your business afterwards.

Accommodation: Turn a night away into an experience by partnering with nearby businesses. Think accommodation plus a brewery tour, restaurant booking, golf day or local attraction.

Retail: make finding Dad’s gift easy

Your customers may love their dads. That doesn’t necessarily mean they know what to buy them.

Create a dedicated Father’s Day gift section online and in-store, and make it easy to browse with categories such as Under $50, Under $100 and For the Dad Who Has Everything.

You could also:

  • Bundle complementary products into ready-made gifts.
  • Offer free Father’s Day wrapping or a complimentary card.
  • Give customers who spend over a certain amount the chance to win something Dad might genuinely want – sporting tickets, a golf day, automotive voucher or local experience.
  • Include an offer with Father’s Day purchases that brings the customer back after the occasion.

Services and trades: turn a service into a gift

Not every Father’s Day present needs to come in a box.

Barbers, gyms, wellness businesses, cleaners, landscapers and other service businesses can package what they already do into something giftable. Consider Father’s Day vouchers, prepaid packages or a “bring Dad” offer where one person receives an added service or discount.

And if gift cards or vouchers aren’t normally front and centre in your business, now’s a good time to remind customers they exist.

Automotive: give Dad (or his car) some attention

For automotive businesses, Father’s Day lends itself nicely to packages and upgrades.

Consider a Father’s Day detailing package, complimentary add-on with selected services, or a competition with every qualifying purchase. You could even partner with another local business to create a bigger prize – car detailing plus restaurant vouchers, sporting tickets or an experience, for example.

Team up with your neighbours

Some of the best Father’s Day ideas don’t need to happen alone.

Look for local businesses that serve a similar audience without directly competing with you. A café could team up with a golf course, a barber with a brewery, or a retailer with a local experience provider.

You could create a joint prize, combine your products into a package or host an event together. One business provides the venue, another the food or experience, and both promote it to their audiences. Less work for everyone, more potential customers to reach.

Whatever you do, tell people about it

A great Father’s Day offer isn’t much use if customers only discover it on 7 September.

Start promoting early across your socials, email, website, booking channels and in-store signage. Tyro customers with integrated terminals can also use their Custom Welcome Screen  1 to display an image promoting an upcoming offer, event or message while the terminal isn’t processing a payment.

And if your Father’s Day plans mean ordering additional stock or investing in your business ahead of a busy period, it may also be worth considering your business funding options.
